Who Supports Reform?

The AFL-CIO, Alliance for Justice, Common Cause, Communications Workers of America, the Sierra Club and Voices for Progress have been working together leading an effort to support rules change in the United States Senate.

In addition to these core groups, over 50 organizations representing labor, the environmental movement, the civil and human rights community, faith based organizations, disability advocates and women’s groups, sent an open letter to the U.S. Senate expressing their concern and calling for the rule changes that would end partisan obstruction and encourage transparency and accountability.

Newspapers from around the country are also weighing in with editorials supporting reform. Academics and constitutional scholars have been lending support to the effort, highlighting the historical accident of the filibuster and how the Senate’s current levels of obstruction are against the Framers’ intentions.
